I am thrilled to share the exciting news that my ceramic vessel, Alchemy of the Earth, was selected as a finalist in the 2025 SWELL Art Prize.
The SWELL Art Prize, now in its second year, is a prestigious national event celebrating contemporary artistry across a range of mediums — from bronze, porcelain, and glass to oils, pastels, and photography. Held over ten vibrant days, the exhibition showcases the talents of both emerging and established artists from the Gold Coast and across Australia. I am honoured for Alchemy of the Earth to stand among such a dynamic and inspiring collection of work.
The exhibition will run from Friday 14th to Sunday 23rd March 2025 at the Broadbeach Community Space in Mermaid Waters, located just opposite Pacific Fair. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore and purchase unique works of art, enjoy sculptural workshops, live music, soundscape experiences, still life drawing sessions, and a variety of social events — all while immersing themselves in a rich celebration of creativity.
Alchemy of the Earth is a large, hand-built vessel that draws its inspiration from the transformative processes of nature. Created through a slow and considered method of coiling and sculpting, the piece reflects the deep interconnection between the earth’s raw elements and the human spirit. The surface textures and muted tones speak to the quiet strength and alchemical magic found within the natural world — where earth, fire, air, and water converge to bring forth new life. It is a meditation on the unseen forces that shape us and the environments we inhabit.
Being recognised as a finalist in the SWELL Art Prize feels particularly meaningful, as the ethos of the exhibition aligns closely with my own artistic philosophy. SWELL celebrates not only technical excellence but also the emotional and conceptual resonance of art — seeking to engage audiences in new conversations and perspectives.
I am incredibly grateful to the SWELL team and the judging panel for this opportunity, and to all those who have supported my journey. Events like the SWELL Art Prize are vital for nurturing artistic communities and offering artists a platform to share their work with broader audiences. They allow us to connect, to spark dialogue, and to inspire one another to continue creating from a place of authenticity and wonder.
If you find yourself on the Gold Coast during the exhibition dates, I warmly invite you to visit the Broadbeach Community Space and experience the beauty and diversity of the works on display. Entry is free, and there is ample parking on-site. I look forward to sharing Alchemy of the Earth alongside the remarkable creations of my fellow artists.
Thank you for being part of this journey with me. I am so excited to see where the path leads next.
